Souq el Second Hand

by Lenka Leslie (Green and Healthy Coordinator P.T.A)

New Year New You…if you are selling or Bargain hunting….if you are shopping. Yes, you guessed it, I am writing about our P.T.A Souq el Second Hand.

Yard sale is a great way to get rid of the old baby stuff you no longer need or that dress you have been saving in your wardrobe just in case it will fit again. Plus, you are helping the environment by recycling and on the top of all that you can make some extra pennies. Also we all secretly enjoy that warming feeling somebody out there will get use of our no longer needed items.

When I turned up at the event all has been already set up and people started arriving. Of course, as this was a yard sale at the school, there were lots of toys up for grabs. You would also find the usual clothes stall, which I must say were popular stands. There was a stand with teachers selling and raising awareness of The Wave Cat and Dogs rescue as well as a stand with a unique crockery made from corn starch!

But I was the most pleasantly surprised by the children’s involvement. They completely got into the spirit of the Souq el Second hand. They all enjoyed the endless shopping and bargaining and what child wouldn’t enjoy a playground full of a wide variety of toys, but also got involved in selling different foods and handmade crafts. Perhaps swapping wouldn’t go a miss as I bet many of the parents who were selling came home with new additions to their child collection.

The Souq el Second Hand was a very pleasant family afternoon and I am looking forward to next one in very near future and I hope you will join me.
