Beach Clean up - Ghubra Beach

When we arrived at the beach on Saturday early morning you could tell it is going to be a great day. It is always hard to predict how many people will turn up to such an event as let's face it, it is not pleasant to start cleaning up rubbish that you haven't thrown away in the first place. However it is a great wake up call to a realization of the huge problem of plastic pollution. We all know that the problem is here but once you arrive at the beach and actually start picking up plastic bottles, cigarette filters, all sorts of wrappers.... (I could go on and on) you feel like it is a never ending story.

Having said all of this all our volunteers came bright and early and with a smile on their faces. This event was more special as we have whole families including OurPlanet students joining us. We have organised the beach clean as a treasure hunt so the children had a motivation to get involved. There were great prizes to be won which were partially sponsored by Sea Oman.

It was great to see how many random walkers came to offer a helping hand. You could really sense that people are willing to get involved.

Once the beach clean was finished, the children could nibble on some pancakes and fruit while listing to a story about the whale Nelson who got stuck in lots of fishing nets.

This event was a fantastic way to start the exciting events ahead and the PTA would like to say huge thank you to all who took part as small steps made by many will take you miles.
